The Osoyoos area is experiencing an unprecedented Stage 5 drought, and Okanagan Lake is at its lowest level in 80 years. Conserving water is a shared responsibility, and every effort to reduce water use makes a difference.
To help conserve water during stage 3 water restrictions, the Jack Shaw Splash Park operating hours have been reduced to 11:00am-6:00pm daily.
The Town has also implemented a number of additional measures to reduce municipal water use:
- Lawns at Kinsmen, Goodman and Jack Shaw Parks have either had watering reduced substantially or stopped
- Irrigation fixtures in parks have been inspected
- Fleet vehicles are not being washed unless absolutely necessary for safety
- Plans have been made for 2027 for more self-watering planters, drought-resistant seasonal plantings and replacement of some civic building lawns with xeriscape
- Indoor fixtures have been identified for replacement with high-efficiency fixtures
- Staff are monitoring water use in civic buildings using the My360 app www.osoyoos.ca/services/utility-billing/my360-consumer-water-portal, setting goals for reduction of water consumption, and watching for leaks
- Council passed a resolution on August 18, 2026 committing to a strategy for water use reduction targets
