Odour control measures have been in place across the Osoyoos wastewater collection system and lagoons for almost two months.

Monitoring equipment has been installed throughout the system to collect baseline data, which helps staff make informed adjustments as needed. Odour control pumps have been operating since mid-March.

The system is currently being treated with an additive that extends the aeration phase, helping to reduce and absorb odours.

Maintaining the proper balance within the wastewater system is complex. It can be affected by substances such as household or pool chemicals that are flushed or drained into the system, requiring ongoing monitoring and adjustments.

We understand that odours can be disruptive for residents when the system becomes unbalanced. Staff respond as quickly as possible to correct issues, however, it takes time for treatments and system adjustments to fully restore balance in the system.
