Did you know that what goes into your recycling bin can affect how much the Town pays for recycling services?
When contamination levels exceed 5%, the Town loses recycling credits that help offset the cost of providing curbside recycling services. This means more of the cost is paid through local tax dollars.
Recently, contamination in our curbside recycling has averaged more than 18%, well above the 5% threshold.
Residents can help reduce these costs by making sure only accepted materials are placed in their recycling carts:
✅ Accepted Items
- Clean, empty, and dry plastic containers (e.g., clean jugs, bottles, food containers)
- Paper, cardboard, and boxboard
- Aluminum foil, trays, cans and lids
Reminder: Remove all food and beverage residue from containers, let recyclables air dry before placing in the recycling bin.
🚫 Not Accepted
- Glass bottles or jars (take to the Osoyoos Bottle Depot)
- Plastic bags and wrap (place in garbage or donate if reusable)
- Food-soiled containers or wet recyclables (please rinse and dry items first)
- Hazardous materials or electronics (visit designated drop-off locations)
