Public Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011, at 7:00pm in the Town of Osoyoos Council Chambers, located at 8707 Main Street to consider the following amendment bylaws:

Official Community Plan Bylaw Amendment 1230.10, 2011 (Regional Context Statement)
The South Okanagan Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) was approved by the Regional Board on April 1st, 2010. The Local Government Act requires that a local municipality covered by a RGS must, within two years of its adoption, forward a regional context statement for approval by the Board showing how its OCP is consistent with the RGS or will be brought into consistency, i.e.:

  • A new Chapter 4. Regional Growth Strategy will incorporate our regional context statement, and replaces existing Chapter 3; and
  • A new Chapter 5. Town Growth Strategy will bring our OCP into consistency with RGS policies for protecting the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), including removing “contingent ALR growth areas”.  This new chapter will replace existing Chapters 4 and 6.

Official Community Plan Bylaw Amendment 1230.11, 2011 (Climate Action Planning)
This OCP Amendment will further recognize and promote two interlocking climate action plans for Osoyoos.

  • As a signatory to the 2007 Climate Action Charter, Council has adopted Osoyoos Corporate Climate Action Plan, 2011 showing how it will become carbon neutral in its municipal operations by 2012, including taking actions to reduce GHG emissions and purchase carbon offsets to cover any shortfall.
  • As required under the Green Communities Amendment Act (Bill 27) of 2008 to the Local Government Act, Council has adopted Osoyoos Community Climate Action Plan, 2011 as the basis for including targets in its OCP for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and policies for the Town to achieve those targets.

All persons will be given an opportunity to be heard and to present written submissions on the matter above. Written submissions can be mailed to the undersigned or emailed to tosoyoos@osoyoos.ca (The Town will only guarantee that emails received to this address will form part of the Council Agenda). The deadline for written submissions is 12:00pm (Noon) Friday, May 6, 2011.

A copy of the amendment bylaws and accompanying documents may be inspected by clicking below:
