Message from Mayor (Updated March 4, 2021)
The Province of BC continues to be subject to a Provincial State of Emergency. The State of Emergency was originally declared on March 18, 2020 and has again been extended until at least March 16, 2021 making it the longest state of emergency in the Province’s history.
The declaration and its continuation is a coordinated effort by the Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, Ministers of Health and Public Safety and Solicitor General, and Premier Horgan and allows health and emergency officials to use extraordinary powers under the Emergency Program Act to support the Province’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. More information regarding the Provincial State of Emergency and COVID-19 Information and Resources can be found here: Provincial State of Emergency: COVID-19 Information & Resources
Rules around international travel and border crossings and travel within Canada are complex and changing as the Federal / Provincial response to the pandemic unfolds. Persons contemplating travel outside of, or within, Canada should check the rules before doing so. Information regarding travel restrictions can be found at the aforementioned website and here: COVID-19: Travel, quarantine and borders
Thank you all for your continued efforts to keep Osoyoos a safe place to live and work. The steps you take- washing your hands often, staying a 2 meter distance from others, wearing masks, staying home when you are sick, staying within your bubble and not hosting visitors or events and postponing travel has proven to make an important difference in helping to keep all of us safe.
During the next few months we will be doing whatever we can to assist Interior Health with distributing a COVID vaccine in Osoyoos to enable our citizens to get immunized as soon as possible. We will also help distribute information regarding vaccination when the plan has been developed and Interior Health has announced it to keep you apprised of further information on when you can expect to be vaccinated and ensure that no citizen who wants to be vaccinated is missed.
Further information regarding COVID-19 can be found below following this message.
Thank you all for continuing to show kindness to one another during this challenging time, and for supporting our local businesses. I see many of you wearing the Destination Osoyoos button which says “Kindness is Contagious”. I know we can all use some of that now.
Mayor Sue McKortoff
