REGULAR OPEN MEETING
Bylaws
- Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 1334, 2017 was abandoned due to a possible process error.
- Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 1335, 2017 was read for a first, second and third time. Council updated their permissive tax exemption bylaw, which is to be adopted no later than October 31st each year. This tax exemption bylaw would take effect for the 2018 tax year. This permissive tax exemption bylaw has had one change to remove Osoyoos Lake Lions Club as the club is no longer in operation. A Special Open Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 26th 2017 at 9:00am to consider final adoption of Bylaw No. 1335, 2017
Business
- Council has approved the signing of a lease for a portion of 8701 Main St to Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre. This lease is year to year for total of three years. The lease fee is $800 per month.
- Council has authorized the Mayor and Corporate Officer to sign the lease extension with the Okanagan Regional Library. The lease between the Town of Osoyoos and Okanagan Regional Library is set to expire December 31st 2017. Okanagan Regional Library has requested that this lease be extended to December 31, 2020.
- Council has approved the repurposing of the existing Dog Park to a Minor Baseball field and that the BMX track be repurposed to a Dog Park.
- Council has directed staff bring a report to Council to turn a portion of Kinsmen Park into an off leash dog park in the 2018 Budget Process.
Reports
- Councillor King attended the RCMP Regimental Gala that was hosted in Osoyoos.
- Councillor Campol attended a forum facilitated by the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction in Vancouver.
- Councillor Youngberg read a report from the Okanagan Regional Library. New implementation at the Library is the Monthly Healthy Living runs from October to May, foot traffic is up at the Library and there are little libraries in two parks.
- Mayor McKortoff encouraged people to attend the International Joint Commission of Lake Osoyoos Board of Control to attend the meeting October 17th at 6:00-8:15pm at the Sonora Centre.
- Mayor McKortoff is representing the International Joint Commission of Lake Osoyoos Board of Control in Ottawa next week.
Copies of reports are available within the Council Agenda packages located on the Town’s website www.osoyoos.ca.
The public is encouraged to attend the Committee of the Whole meetings which take place in Council Chambers at 9:00AM on the morning of the Regular Open Council meetings at 2:00 PM to learn additional in-depth information regarding upcoming business.
