Council Meeting Highlights for June 19, 2017

  • Aaron McRann, Executive Director of Community Foundations made a presentation on Neighbourhood Small Grants & provided an update on the Osoyoos Endowment Fund.  The Community Foundation has granted over $102,660 to Osoyoos since 2010.  This year they will be granting $420,000 throughout the region.  A new project that was taken on is the neighbourhood small grants.  The Giving Cupboard is an example of the neighbourhood small grant.  3 or 4 more neighbourhood grants will be given out in 2018 for Osoyoos once voted on by the Board of Directors.
  • Luanne Chore, CEO of SIDIT presented to Council, information on the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust.  This trust was created by an Act of Legislation (Bill 8 -2005) February 27,2006.  They gave an overview of current programs that they provide funding to.



  •  A report with additional information regarding the retaining wall along Magnolia Place Boulevard was presented to Council.  This report gave Council more information regarding maintenance of the boulevard slope adjacent to the property of 4415 Oleander Drive.  Council requests that staff identify potential solutions to resolve this issue and bring these options to the next regular Council meeting.


  • Councillor Rhodes encouraged residents to be aware of what they are putting in the garbage.
  • Councillor Campol attended the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Ottawa for the Canada 150 Celebration.
  • Councillor Campol attended the CIBC Celebration for their 50th Anniversary in Osoyoos.
  • Councillor Campol attended a meeting at the Osoyoos Secondary School.
  • Councillor King attended the Destination Osoyoos Annual General Meeting
  • Mayor McKortoff encouraged residents to keep sandbags in place until further notice.
  • Mayor McKortoff attended the grand opening of Tumbleweed Spirits.
  • Mayor McKortoff reminded everyone to pay their taxes which are due July 4th.
  • Mayor McKortoff took part in a conference call with the International Joint Commission regarding the lake levels.
  • Mayor McKortoff encouraged everyone to attend the Canada Day festivities

The public is encouraged to attend the Committee of the Whole meetings which take place in Council Chambers at 9:00AM on the morning of the Regular Open Council meetings at 2:00 PM to learn additional in-depth information regarding upcoming business.
