Community Invitation Osoyoos Proposed Conservation Fund November 24
Residents are invited to attend a Public Engagement Session on a Town of Osoyoos Proposed Conservation Fund.
Date: November 24, 2016
Time: 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Location: Room 5, Sonora Community Centre
8505 – 68 Avenue
The Town of Osoyoos is considering establishing a dedicated conservation fund to provide consistent funding for initiatives to maintain, protect, repair and/or enhance our diverse and valuable natural environment. Some potential uses of the fund are stewardship opportunities for conserving and restoring ecologically important areas; addressing threats from invasive species; building interconnected green open spaces and trails for educational, recreational and tourism opportunities; and restoring and protecting riparian areas. One possible funding source for consideration is establishing a small annual property levy that would apply to the Town of Osoyoos only. This initiative is similar, but separate from the regional proposal of the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS).
Session participants are invited to provide input on the value of a dedicated conservation fund, priority applications, operational organizational structure, and desirable funding levels and means of financing.

A questionnaire will subsequently be available on this website at a later date for all interested residents.
