About the Census?
Every five years Statistics Canada conducts a census. The next Census of Canada will take place in May 2011. Starting May 2, 2011, all households in Canada will receive a yellow census package. The census questionnaire can be completed online or on paper.
Census of Population data are used to:
-
determine representation in Parliament;
-
calculate transfer payments between levels of government;
-
develop programs such as daycare and select sites for schools;
-
plan important public services such as daycare, select sites for schools, and fire and police protection.
Who is included in the Census?
The census includes all persons who have their main residence in Canada on May 10, 2011. This includes newborn babies, room-mates and persons who are temporarily away.
