The Town of Osoyoos is in the process of completing a conceptual plan to aid with any future upgrades to the Main Street corridor. The proposed upgrades will build on the sketches and ideas presented in the Osoyoos Town Centre Renewal Plan and will look to make recommendations on the following aspects of the corridor:

  • Parking type (angle vs parallel)
  • Street Lighting
  • Pedestrian facilities (wider sidewalks)
  • Street furniture (locations, types)
  • Streetscape, including trees and other forms of landscaping
  • Improvements to accessibility
  • Improvements to drainage

The Town of Osoyoos has engaged WSP Canada to prepare conceptual designs for the Main Street corridor from the intersection of Highway 97 to Lakeshore Drive as well as schematic/preliminary design for corridor from Park Place to the Bridge Deck. The process has been broken down into key phases:

  1. Stakeholder Engagement
    • General public and as well as the business community
    • Town Council
    • Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure
  2. Conceptual and schematic designs
  3. Cost estimates
  4. Phasing recommendations
  5. Final report

The intent of this project to provide the community with a guiding document to ensure consistent and harmonious redevelopment of the Main Street corridor. The Town will be looking to start with the section of Main Street between Park Place (Watermark) and the bridge deck in the coming years and will look at different funding models to achieve the re-development; grants, local improvement areas, etc.
